Students from Louisiana took part in the Louisiana Region 1 Science & Engineering Fair from March 9-11 at the Bossier Parish Community College. Over 150 projects were submitted from elementary, middle, and high school students. To qualify, all science projects had to have placed at a school science fair prior to entry.
A team of judges from our Northwest Louisiana facilities reviewed the projects and spoke with the students. From their scores, nine students were selected as 2023 Calumet Scholars. On March 11, these students received medallions in an award ceremony. In May, each Calumet Scholar will receive scholarship money at the school board meeting in their Parish.
“I was impressed at the level of detail and complexity of the regional science and engineering projects,” said Brian Marcinkus, Plant Manager of Princeton and Cotton Valley. “It was evident that the students put in a lot of work and preparation. I could tell that they put in a lot of effort on the projects and preparing for their interviews. Being able to support that kind of enthusiasm about education is a way for us to invest in our community.”
