CalChill™

Today’s computers and electronic devices are engineered for faster and more powerful output. Modern technology requires higher speeds to keep up with the advanced applications such as cloud computing, AI data centers and cryptocurrency mining.

As computers and data centers grow more powerful, more heat is generated. Traditional air cooling is no longer able to handle the excessive heat, which puts electronics at risk of failure. Since microchips generate the most heat, Direct-to-Chip cooling using water/glycol fluids can be used as this method does not contact any electronics.

The next step in innovation is Immersion Cooling, where the whole computer system is surrounded by a fluid that draws heat away from the electronics. Immersion cooling provides a continuous flow which introduces a cool fluid, and the heated fluid is pumped away to a heat exchanger before recirculating back as newly cooled fluid.

Calumet offers CalChill™ immersion cooling fluid that is designed to provide a highly efficient solution for cooling electrical components and optimizing data center performance.

CalChill products contain the properties required for directly contacting electronics:

  • Effective electrical insulators with high dielectric breakdown values to prevent electrical conduction.
  • Good thermal conductivity to efficiently absorb heat and remove it from hot spots.
  • Compatible with cable coatings and electronics.

There are many benefits to using immersion cooling including moderating temperatures to prevent large swings that are extremely harsh on digital infrastructure, keeping data centers and computers running more reliably with less downtime, and using less overall energy than air to keep systems cool.

CalChill immersion cooling fluid is designed to provide a highly efficient solution for cooling electrical components and optimizing data center performance.
