Montana Renewables is modifying existing assets at the Great Falls facility to process up to 15,000 barrels per stream day (“bpsd”) of renewable feedstocks (such as seed oils, used cooking oil, and tallow) into lower life cycle emission sustainable alternatives that directly replace fossil fuel products.
Montana Renewables is a SAF leader in North America producing approximately 30 million gallons of SPK per year. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a combination of synthetic paraffinic kerosene (SPK) and conventional jet fuel. SPK aims to lower the life cycle emissions of the aviation industry’s carbon footprint. It is made from sustainable, renewable, low-carbon feedstocks and agricultural byproducts such as tallow, distiller corn oil, canola oil, and camelina oil, and has reduced life cycle emissions compared to conventional jet fuel. The use of SAF can help the aviation sector meet its goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a more sustainable future.
